About Us

Buying or building a new home is one of the biggest decisions most people ever make, and one of the most confusing. There are floor plans to compare, builders to vet, lots to evaluate, financing to line up, and a hundred decisions between the first sketch and the final walkthrough. Most of the information out there is either a sales pitch or scattered across a dozen forums.

New Home Magazine exists to fix that. We’re a publication built for people who are planning, building, or buying a new home, and we want to be the place they come back to at every step of the process.

What We Cover

We started out covering barndominiums, and they’re still a big part of what we do. Watching people build homes that fit how they actually live showed us something bigger: whatever the style, new-home buyers are hungry for honest, practical guidance. So today we cover the whole world of new construction:

Floor plans and design: modern farmhouses, ranch homes, barndominiums, cottages, and everything in between, with layouts broken down so you can picture living in them.

Building your own home: how the process works from land to keys, what it really costs, and the questions to ask before you sign anything.

Buying new construction: what to know about production builders, upgrades, warranties, and new-home communities.

State and regional guides: building codes, land costs, climate considerations, and what’s different about building where you live.

Inspiration: real homes, interiors, and ideas worth stealing.

Our Approach

We write for the person on the other side of the screen: someone sitting at a kitchen table with a notebook, trying to figure out whether this dream is doable. That means plain language, real numbers whenever we can get them, and straight answers about the trade-offs. We’d rather tell you what can go wrong than sell you a fantasy.

How We Work

Our editorial team researches every topic we publish, drawing on builders, designers, industry data, and homeowners who’ve been through it themselves. We update our guides as costs, codes, and trends change, because advice about building a home goes stale faster than you’d think. When we work with advertisers or partners, that never decides what we recommend.
